Opera GX Mobile is a free mobile web browser that is specially designed for mobile gaming. A product of  Opera Software, this is the mobile version of Opera GX and offers the beloved features of the PC browser, as well as some mobile-specific ones that will benefit players while on the go.

As the world’s first mobile gaming browser, Opera GX Mobile aims to bring in the powerful tools that its PC version has to handheld devices. While the scope is limited for this platform—and some features aren’t available—this app still performs its best with the new optimizations available.

Is Opera GX on mobile?

Opera is a multi-platform Chromium-based browser first released in 1995. It became popular enough to compete against Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Brave, and other handy browsers so, by 2019, it had been given its own gaming-oriented counterpart called Opera GX. Unlike Opera, GX focuses more on features built specifically for the benefit of gamers. These include CPU, RAM, and network limiters and gaming app integrations like Twitch and Discord.

Opera GX is for desktop use while Opera GX Mobile is the gaming browser for mobile devices. They share similar features most of the time. For one, the Flow feature is available here—allowing you to sync your mobile and computer browsers via a QR code for easy media sharing. Another returning tool is the GX Corner, which is the one-tap space for access to gaming news, deals, and the like.

What’s special here, though, is its custom navigation using the Fast Action Button (FAB). This makes the interface easier for one-handed use and utilizes haptic feedback with device vibrations whenever you interact with the menu. Other cool features include a built-in ad blocker, Dark Mode, crypto-mining protection, and browser themes. However, what’s sorely missed are the option to import bookmarks and performance booster settings.

Has room to grow

All in all, Opera GX Mobile is a promising app when you compare it to its first version. It has most of the features that made Opera GX popular within the gaming community and while the scale of it has been downsized, there are still handy tools that are at your fingertips. However, some of the more popular features aren’t present here—which can be highly disappointing.

  • Pros

    • Retains some of the PC version’s features
    • Custom one-handed navigation with FAB
    • Built-in ad blocker and crypto-mining attempts
    • Can sync media between mobile and PC
  • Cons

    • No performance booster settings like network usage
    • Can’t import bookmarks

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
